Language as a Window into Human Nature
TRUTH Campaign
Always shocking, always affective, the TRUTH campaign is by far the most memorable public awareness campaign of the past decade. The vivid orange color they use in their designs matches their public placed shock-and-awe installations very well. What works well for their approach is the intrigue of the crowd. Humans by nature are curious, so as people see these crowds forming around the bizarre, and sometimes startling installations, more and more people feel the need to see what is happening, which exposes their message to an ever growing number of invdividuals.
HTC Innovation TV Commercial
I think the polarities between the way the narrator describes how real life influences technology and the visuals used to support his claim seem so vastly different. On one side is the authentic, real life situation and on the opposite is the shallow, simplified version found on a mobile phone. These attempts to reproduce real world scenarios in a digital form fall very short of their goal given the complexity and unrepeatable nature of reality.
BBM Flirt Commercial
This ad attempts to show how talking through Blackberry Messanger, with all its bells and whistles, better connects those who use it. They speak about their messenger system as if these people are somehow more connected through this minimal communication, then, oh, lets say actually being with and talking to a real person. It continues to show that these users can also see when someone has opened a message and when someone is typing, removing any sort of privacy that might still remain on a device that already demands instant responses in fear of back lash from nosey friends.
You Need To Get Off Facebook
This young teacher does a great job of using the power of words to express a certain opinion. With just the use of letters scribbled on paper, he has managed to introduce and express multiple issues that he has found within social networking websites like Facebook. The creator also did a good job of finding a song that matched his tone and message. The song is mellow and soft but provokes a cheery vibe given the singers voice and the elongated notes that create a sense of movement within the music.
MTV Israel - Show Reel 2010
This montage shows more great examples of the fun an animation can have with flat graphics and images. I like the playfulness and the bizarre fantasy quality these types of examples hold.
